Description of professional achievements. Your achievements in summary

People are realized in different spheres of life: family, friends, education, and also work. The professional field of activity is no less important than others. Realizing himself as a specialist in his field, receiving recognition of his skills, experience, knowledge, a person grows and improves himself. Another indisputable plus professional achievements is raising wages, settlement work schedule, improving the quality of life. This article discusses how to set goals in professional areas and achieve them, why it is necessary, how to describe your results in a resume. Also, the issue of the professional achievements of the teacher will be considered separately, their types and descriptions will be presented.

Concept definition

What does "professional achievement" mean? In every work there are moments that can be called achievements. This list is individual for each specialist, each employer pays attention to the moments that are important in his company. A professional achievement is a successfully resolved situation, the fulfillment of certain tasks, useful experience in resolving complex conflicts and circumstances. In some areas, this is obtaining a certain title, degree, level of education, category of specialist. In others - the unification of people, leadership among certain groups of people, the exhaustion of social conflicts. In the third - high levels of sales, completed transactions, won tenders. Professional achievement is a very broad concept that depends on the field of activity, the specifics of the work, the attitude of employers and the relevance of the skill in the modern workflow.

The meaning of work for a person

The job must be profitable. This is its main meaning, which many workers are content with. But in addition to the monetary result, work should bring pleasure, moral satisfaction, the realization of human qualities. So professional achievements are also one of the meanings labor activity. They allow a person not only to arrange his life and career more safely, but also to realize himself psychologically and emotionally, evoke a number of positive emotions, stabilize nervous tension, and increase self-confidence.

Goal setting and achievement

High professional achievements and results are rarely the product of luck and coincidence. Such situations happen, but in practice, the employee receives these points of the characteristic if he makes certain efforts. In order to achieve something, you must act. At the initial stage, it is necessary to determine what achievement is really important in a particular area and profession, how it can improve the position of an employee in society and in career growth. At the second stage, you need to set a goal for yourself, break it down into steps and systematically move in a given direction. It is important to determine the time intervals, available resources and ways to accelerate the achievement of the goal. A well-designed plan will help you achieve your goals much faster and more likely.

Do I need to indicate all my merits

Professional achievements in the resume is one of the key characteristics of the candidate. If a person seeks to take the best vacancy with decent pay and good conditions, it is simply necessary to indicate their achievements. Achievements corresponding to the profile of the company will allow you to weed out most of the competitors on workplace, agree on the desired salary and gain the respect of colleagues and superiors.

Naturally, not all vacancies require certain corporate successes from candidates. So, it is difficult to present a resume of a loader, cleaner, plumber and other working specialties with a list of professional achievements. This item in the summary is necessary for workers in the social or intellectual fields.

How candidates are selected

Before choosing an employee for a particular job, organizations consider several options. Depending on the characteristics of the vacancy and the employer itself, the number of applicants who responded can range from a few to hundreds. In large companies, reviewing resumes is the responsibility of a whole department of professionals whose job is to identify the best people among a huge stream of incoming candidates. These people are very well versed in professions, requirements for applicants, they can perfectly distinguish lies from the truth, identify a psychological portrait, conduct various kinds of tests, and, based on the results, compose a holistic image of the applicant. From an experienced HR manager, it is difficult to hide negative stories from the professional past, absolute ignorance of the subject of the vacancy, and other criteria for inappropriate position. In addition, the personnel department has various services at its disposal, in which previous employers leave comments and reviews on their employees. Often, if the professional achievements of a person in a resume are of interest personnel worker, then by the time of the live meeting at the interview, he had already collected a lot of information about him.

How to describe yourself correctly

Based on the information in the previous block of the article, we can conclude that you should follow certain rules for compiling a resume, describing examples of professional achievements, listing your qualities, skills, knowledge and abilities. Following these instructions greatly increases your chances of being liked by the employer and getting the job you want.

So, the resume should have a structure. This is necessary for ease of reading, highlighting the most important aspects for the employer, increasing the possibility that the recruiting manager will notice something significant in your response. With a huge amount of incoming correspondence, it is very difficult to focus on a monolithic text, to read and look for certain information in an array of completely useless text.

The resume should answer specific questions. The employer must see from it that this particular person has a sufficient understanding of the professional field for which he is applying.

Some companies require a separate resume. So, for many large holdings, it is important that a person study the history of development, the specifics of work, and the features of the corporate ethics of their organization. Your resume should show your knowledge of the company. An integral part of a well-written resume is transmittal letter. Some employers do not consider candidates at all who have not written at least a couple of words in addition to the resume.

Exaggeration and outright lies

You should not ascribe to yourself the highest professional achievements, if in fact you have nothing to do with them. Firstly, not all people can professionally lie and embellish reality so that it is not noticeable to others. An experienced personnel officer will definitely feel that something is wrong in the information you have provided. Secondly, if there were really negative moments in your professional history, most likely, the HR specialist is already aware of them from the black lists of employers. Thirdly, deception regarding skills and professional achievements will be revealed in the very first week of work. Starting a "new life page", and this is often what a new job is, is not worth doing with dishonorable actions.

Downplaying your accomplishments

Many people are notorious, they experience uncertainty in themselves and their abilities, they themselves do not represent their capabilities and talents. Yes, even the usual constraint is inherent in every second person. And if a person is haunted by a series of failures, a long and painful job search, he may completely despair and lose faith in his abilities. In fact, such a position does not bring anything good. Even in the most difficult situations, be confident in yourself, talk in detail about significant achievements in your professional activities, do not hide your merits. If you don't talk about them, your position will be taken by someone else who can overcome fear and embarrassment. After all, how will an employer know about your advantages as a candidate if you yourself chose to hide them from the public?

Blur and specific

A resume is a document. Even though it does not have an established form, it is not presented to state authorities and is not checked for falsification. A resume is a document that is a pass to a new job. This means that it must be filled in with high quality, accurately and according to the rules, albeit unspoken ones. Many professionals who have not yet acquired a rich portfolio and experience try to squeeze as many words as possible into the resume, using vague wording, complex sentences, and long lists of meaningless lists and explanations. As in the thesis, and in the resume: the less "water", the better. Write specific phrases, formulate sentences in which brevity and informativeness are consistent.

Achievements in Pedagogy

Teacher, teacher, educator, professor, lecturer - all these professions are united by the general concept of "teacher". This is a very important job in itself, requiring full dedication, long years of study, a certain set of personal qualities, and even leading a special lifestyle. Moreover, the higher the status educational institution where the vacancy is advertised, the higher the requirements for candidates. In the selection of professional achievement, teachers can play a key role. In addition, the low wages of teachers in the field of public education in themselves can increase significantly upon obtaining certain degrees, ranks, titles, victories in competitions and passing attestations.

Examples of teachers' achievements

What to write in a resume, what achievements of professional goals can a teacher have? Taking into account all the above description rules, the following examples can be given:

  • Obtaining the title of "Teacher of the Year", winning competitions related to professionalism, obtaining attestation, advanced training.
  • Successfully written and defended doctoral dissertation or any other scientific work in the field of teaching.
  • Organization of events for students with high turnout.
  • Involvement of third parties in the learning process who have had an important impact on the mentees (scientists, celebrities, well-known people).
  • Successfully attracting and motivating students to volunteer, helping needy segments of the population, improving public life and environment.
  • Fruitful participation in the lives of children with poor living and social conditions, assistance in adaptation.
  • Creation and maintenance of circles, sections, interest groups.

A teacher is a person who participates in shaping not only the level of education of his students, knowledge about a particular subject, but also in drawing a picture of the world, establishing mental health and balance. All these points can increase the value of the frame for the educational institution.

Work experience is the first thing a company looks at when it selects an employee. How to describe your career path in such a way as to interest the employer, read the Superjob material.

Work experience is the first thing a company looks at when it selects an employee. How to describe your career path in such a way as to interest the employer, read the material.

The description of work experience should be as specific as possible. Each new company in your track record should have a separate line indicating the period of work, the name of the company, its brief description, your position, responsibilities and achievements.

Specify the period of work in the organization to the nearest month: This will allow the HR manager to accurately assess how long you have worked there. "2014-2015" - such dating leaves a number of questions. If, for example, you got a job in an organization in January 2014 and left in December 2015, then you worked in the company for almost two years, and if you joined in December 2014 and left in February 2015, then your experience at your last job is only two months, a significant difference. Don't leave recruiters guessing: resumes with inaccurate job dates are more likely to end up in the trash.

The name of the organization must be written in full, without relying on the fact that its abbreviated name is familiar to everyone. As a rule, recruiting portals offer to provide brief information about the organization - its location (it is enough to indicate the city, in some cases - also the country), field of activity, number of employees, etc. "LLC "Edelweiss". Realization of soft drinks (office in Tyumen). The number of staff - 100 people "- quite an acceptable option for a resume.

The position should be specified clearly and clearly- “sales manager”, “chief accountant”, “nurse”. But writing a general name - “specialist”, “manager”, “employee” - is ineffective: already from the title of the position it should be clear what exactly you did at your previous jobs.

Match the job description with the purpose of the resume. Filling in the resume column, which is called " Job Responsibilities and achievements”, do not state the content of your work in too much detail - it is better to focus on the main thing. Consider what position you are applying for. To correctly place the accents, carefully read the advertisement for the vacancy you are interested in and think about what exactly from your previous experience is especially important for getting desired position? For example, an applicant applying for the position of a marketing manager, but who does not have work experience confirmed by a previous position, should emphasize that he is related to marketing: if you were engaged in an order souvenir products or, for example, helped organize promotional events, all this should be reflected in the list of duties. Are you applying for a leadership position? Pay special attention to your organizational experience.

If in your work you have used special tools, technologies, software, be sure to name them: it is possible that this will be your competitive advantage. "Design of parts and assemblies using the NX system"; "Payroll calculation of employees in the 1C program"; “Website interface development in Axure” - such lines will undoubtedly decorate the resume.

Particular attention - specific achievements in previous jobs. Avoid vague phrases and wording like: "great experience"; "Improving the efficiency of the department"; “building contacts with the media”, etc. Remember that when describing your achievements, you should be guided by the rule: the more specific, the better. Name the numbers, give real examples of your initiatives. “Growth in the company's sales by 40% per year”; “Increasing the citation of company newsmakers by 3 times” - just a few such points are enough to make your resume stand out from hundreds of others.

If the resume contains several jobs, and the list of duties and achievements is almost the same, such a CV is unlikely to be of interest to the recruiter, because the candidate does not demonstrate any professional development. But each of your jobs must have had its achievements! And even if they seem small to you, they are worth talking about.

If you have been promoted while working at a company, be sure to reflect this on your resume. To do this, add a new place of work, enter the former name of the company and in the appropriate columns indicate the name of the new position, period of work and a list of changed responsibilities and achievements.

Avoid abbreviations and inaccuracies. The name of the educational institution, place of work, enumeration of duties, achievements - write all this in detail. If your resume is full of abbreviations, the employer, most likely, will not begin to guess what is hidden behind letters that are incomprehensible to him.

Never include false information in your resume! Do not invent non-existent jobs, responsibilities and skills. It is unlikely that in this way you will be able to get a job of your dreams: and the very first days in the company will make it obvious. It is better to focus on a competent presentation of your real experience and the correct placement of accents.

Good luck with your resume and job search!

"Give an example of your achievements"- This is one of the questions that are asked in a competency interview. This type of interview is a reliable and widely used method in recruitment, which makes it possible to check professional competencies candidate for a successful job.

For those who do not have experience with this type of interview, the main thing is to understand the basic concept:

In a behavioral interview, you should provide concrete examples of the successful application of skills and abilities from past work experience.

This type of interview is based on the fact that on the basis of the past behavior of an employee in a given situation, one can predict his future behavior in a new job. And all the candidate needs to do is to provide compelling examples that clearly demonstrate the required competencies specified in the job description.

The most commonly explored competencies are:

  • communication
  • teamwork
  • initiative
  • leadership
  • problem solving skills
  • analytical thinking
  • stress tolerance
  • time management
  • negotiation skills
  • planning
  • result oriented
  • process oriented

For example, if the requirements of the job profile indicate that the candidate must be able to analyze, then the interviewer will definitely ask you to give an example of when you used this skill in your work and what results you achieved.

Competency questions start with:

  • Tell me about a time when you...
  • Give me an example...
  • What steps did you take...

Here are some examples of the most popular questions:

  • Give an example of your accomplishments.
  • Describe a time when you had to overcome a major hurdle in order to get things done.
  • Tell me about a time when you had to juggle several important projects.

Most often, candidates do not pay due attention to the issues of competence. And in vain. After all, if you manage to pass and then fail the first behavioral question, you will still leave the interview empty-handed. Even if you have a huge long-term work experience, but without prepared examples, you will not be able to make a favorable impression and confirm your competencies. It is quite difficult to answer such a question, because in your daily activities you cannot single out or remember immediately without preparation something really worthwhile, which you should tell a potential employer about.

Unfortunately, most often, it is the candidates who are less competent, but with good training, bypass more experienced employees. And so that this does not happen to you, it's time to remember everything and create a good story from your past work experience.

I recommend having at least three examples of the competencies indicated in the vacancy in reserve in order to highlight your strengths in the interview. The easiest way to effectively answer any question in a behavioral interview is to prepare three clear examples of your major accomplishments. Remember the most interesting projects, difficult tasks, problem situations. If you have little experience, then you can use the examples during your studies or internship.

As always, we will use the STAR method as the basis for the story, which will help you focus on key details and make your story structured, concise and memorable.

  1. Rresults

Formulate the results of your actions: what happened, what was done, what you learned. And finally, it is very important that your good STAR story always has a happy ending, like in a fairy tale. The last part of your answer should describe the positive results of your actions. Specific results are always especially impressive, for example: a 32% increase in sales, a halving of the budget, etc. But you can also refer to a positive outcome through emotional appraisal, especially from a boss or clients. This will be the best way to convince the interviewer that the story you are telling is real. For example: m oh the client was very pleased, my manager appreciated my contribution to the final result and highly appreciated my work, etc.

Answer example:

When I presented the new improved reporting to my manager, he was so impressed that he couldn't believe I had done it all by myself in such a short period of time! I also received high praise from senior management and was included in the Talent Bank program in our company.

6 tips: How to answer the question: Give an example of your achievements.

1) Take enough time to think of a vivid example from your past work or school experience. Pick an example that actually shows multiple competencies and personal attributes.

2) Listen carefully to the questions and if you do not understand, do not rush to answer, but ask to be explained to you. This is better than answering the question in a completely different direction and giving irrelevant examples.

3) Be prepared for clarifying questions because the interviewer will want to get more information from you and check if your answers are genuine. Here are examples of such questions:

  • Tell me why did you do it this way
  • Explain how you achieved this result
  • Do you think it could have been done differently?

4) Be specific. Don't try to answer in general terms that don't say anything about you. For example: " I consider myself very responsible and organized employee, because I always achieve high results and complete the tasks on time.” So you are not answering the question. You can count whatever you want, but you are required to give a real example from your past experience in order to prove your point.

Victory doesn't come easy! But how to get around rivals and get a position for which hundreds of worthy competitors are ready to fight? Here you need a serious argument - why you. Do not give up, even if the competence of your opponents exceeds your personal achievements.

The main weapon in this battle is . Design it in such a way as to cause an acute desire of the employer to meet with you. A particularly important aspect is to correctly indicate professional achievements in the resume, emphasizing your strengths and.

Let's start with the fact that you need to be able to separate your personal qualities from professional ones. Do not mix them under any circumstances. Understanding this issue is quite simple. List yours, which, as you think, are in demand in the desired field of activity. If in another area they are completely unnecessary - professional skills, otherwise - personal.

Often does not focus on personal achievements. Stop only at those that are adequate to the position and can contribute to the work.

Bring to the attention of the employer your professional achievements: significant results and knowledge related to work, emphasizing:

  • implemented projects,
  • improvement in financial performance,
  • goals achieved,
  • results that have surpassed your past victories or the achievements of colleagues.

How to deliciously present professional achievements

When writing a resume, literally everything matters. Even seemingly small things can affect the course of events.

The most common mistakes

You will be passed over and you will never get a job if your resume is:

  • vague. Avoid common phrases: provision, promotion, implementation. It seems that you wanted to do it, but did not have time due to dismissal. It raises doubts whether you understand, in general, what is at stake.
  • wordy. The statements will not give results: “helped to avoid mistakes”, “led the team”, “conducted training”, “quickly completed tasks”.
  • negative. Bypass negative information: “analyzed complaints about:”, “controlled the decrease in the percentage of sales”, “moved from position:”.
  • Contain passive forms. The wording "responsible for the implementation", "found application" is rephrased to - "implemented", "effectively used". The expression "occupied an administrative position" should be replaced by the word "supervised". Instead of "worked there for five years" should be written "was promoted", and the term "did extra work rewrite as, "always got the job done on time."

How to write everything correctly?

Use business language.

Assumes business communication. It is based on numbers and calculations. Whatever topic is touched upon: corporate values, clients, working conditions of personnel, financial issues are always brought to the fore.

Presenting your achievements in the language of business is the key to success and an indicator of communication. A resume is an effective method of showing your abilities in the language of numbers.

Add specifics.

Orientation to the result and achievement of the set goal is the main component that affects the outcome of the selection of the best applicant for the position! However, not all successes will be credited to the candidate. The effect on the employer will only have the result that will be:

  • Make up the importance for the job seeker and recruiter.
  • be measured in quantitative terms.
  • Have a time frame.

To summarize, it should be noted that your achievements should be:

Job Responsibilities and Achievements Writing Examples

Your achievements in the resume can be described as follows:

  • Transition of the capital investment service to a new settlement system. Implemented a new accounting program and trained 30 employees to work with it in 2 months.
  • Increase in the supply of raw materials in 2016 - by 40%, in 2015 - by 20%;
  • During the period from June 2016 to February 2017, he developed 56 new projects that the company successfully implemented.
  • In the 1st half of 2016, he organized the work of a furniture production workshop, which led to the implementation of 80% of the plan, instead of the planned 20%.
  • Saved the company $15,000 by developing a rationalization proposal to improve equipment.

In the case of a ban on the disclosure of commercial information by your ex-company, it will be enough to indicate the figure as a percentage or limit it to the expression "several times".

Rules for describing major achievements

Endure style

When it comes to previous work, it is appropriate to use the past tense verbs: erected, designed. You should talk about the real place of work, using the present tense of verbs: I build, I design. Finish the phrases.

When applying for a managerial position, state your key skills in the language of the manager. For example: Influenced, Activated, Directed, Proved, Instructed, Initiated, Justified.

Balance of results

Balance is the key to effective work. This indicator is characterized by the rational use of resources and the development of team capabilities.

Example:

  • Set a limit on bill payments;
  • eliminated unnecessary water consumption costs;
  • improved the mechanism for the distribution of equipment repair costs.

Link personal achievement to your workplace

Describe in the column your responsibilities and achievements in your resume, acquired recently. Outdated information has long lost its relevance. And if in your life you have changed a dozen employers, then only information about achievements from the last 2-3 positions should be indicated.

Provide relevant information

Sometimes, the achievements indicated by the applicant do not correspond to the level of the position. For example, a candidate aims for the position of the head of the department, but mentions the achievements of the master. Or vice versa. The applicant wants to get a position as a programmer, and describes the achievements in the resume of the highest managerial level in the business where he once worked.

So, remember: if you are applying for a job in the management team - indicate the successes of the manager level, if you want to work as a line specialist - meet these evaluation criteria. Forget what you did before and make a resume according to the requirements of the future job.

If there are no achievements

Do you think that you do not have labor achievements? You just need to think. Of course, not everyone can have special merits and feats, but if they wish, they will be typed into a small list. Success is different for everyone. And how many people, so many opinions.

A position, such as a janitor, does not require achievements. The same can be said for the professions of a loader, handyman, cashier, fast food restaurant worker, driver, etc.

Achievements can be omitted if your position is on the list of unskilled labor - they are simply unnecessary there.

Or maybe you just underestimate yourself? Then use the criterion: you brought the work you started to its logical conclusion, and everyone felt better. Apply this method.

Which section to post

Standard scripts used on work portals do not have a special “achievements” column.

For example, on the largest recruiting site HeadHunter, in the “work experience” section, you need to enter your key skills in the “duties, functions, achievements” field in your resume. Sample - see below.

Use of verbs in a graph

Statistically - correct use verbs in the section will bring the desired result. Each type of activity has its own set of words:

Administrative management and management
Public relations and creativity
Financial management
Social assistance and nursing

office service
Research and analysis
Sales and marketing

Any employee knows the situation when it is necessary to provide information about their professional performance, for example, annual certification. What is the best way to do this? We are trying to adapt the Life Balance Wheel coaching tool for this task.

In my consulting practice over the past two years, the most frequently asked question was: “How to formulate my professional achievements?”

When does such a need arise?

  • In a job search situation for writing a resume, for an interview with a potential employer.
  • Within the company, when there is a transition from one career stage to another.
  • In preparation for the annual / quarterly certification.
  • etc.

Indeed, what is the best way to do this? I thought about it and started experimenting with different options.

The practical application of all variations on the theme of “what is best” brushed aside one method after another. As a result, the option using the favorite coaching tool “Wheel of balance” showed its viability. I am sure that the community audience is familiar with it, so I will not describe it, and you can read a lot of useful information about this wheel on the Internet. Let's get down to practice.

So, take a sheet of paper, a pen and draw a circle. Divide it into 6-10 equal parts (or as many parts as you want). We sign each area of the circle, for example, as in my drawing. These are areas of activity in which your achievements can be found.

Next, we formulate what each area of your circle means. Why is it important? The fact is that on the one hand, all definitions can be found in any textbook or Wikipedia. On the other hand, each company may have its own individual characteristics. And also your professional skills can only be yours.

For example, if you work within the company and are preparing for certification, then the area "Working with clients" - may have the following definition according to the information that the company puts into this concept - it is easy to explain by phone the features of working with the service provided by the company, show restraint in conversation with a conflicting client.

And in another company, "Working with clients" is the formation of a complete package of documents for the transaction, entering information into CRM, timely provision of changes to clients on the transaction, and correspondence through electronic document management.

If you are compiling a resume for yourself, then there may be such an option - "Working with clients" - these are my unique opportunities to understand the needs of the client, combine script work with a "live" conversation, building long-term relationships with him.

A similar algorithm of work will be with other names of the circle areas. As an example, a couple more definitions from the work of my clients:

  • "Leadership" - difficult situations in which I took responsibility for decision when working on a project, brought the work to a result.
  • "Communication" - my skills in negotiating with difficult people, with colleagues of different positions, with leaders of different levels of government, etc.

Now, we write how many and what achievements you have in each professional area.

For example, "Performance" - your effective actions that led to the planned result.

Example: “Proposed to analyze the ROI indicator in order to obtain data on the effectiveness of invested funds in training sales managers. The results of the data showed a direct correlation between the increase in sales volume and the new acquired skills in training.

“Savings” - as a result of your work, the company saved the budget and received financial benefits.

Example: “I found new suppliers of such and such services or equipment, with lower prices, but without loss of product quality, entered into an agreement, and the company saved 30% of its usual budget for these costs.”

"Profit" - the staff of the department as a result of your innovations increased sales compared to previous months.

Example: “I analyzed the motivation system for sales managers over the past 3 years, approved a new motivation system for CEO, implemented it and as a result, the volume of revenue was increased by 40% in the first month after the introduction of innovations, then by 30% monthly.

The principle, I think, is clear. Here it is important to first formulate what you understand as "work with clients", "leadership", "innovation", etc., that is, to decipher each area of the circle. And then write down your specific achievements.

You have two sheets of paper in front of you.

  • The first sheet is a drawing with a circle of achievements.
  • The second sheet is a list of your accomplishments in each area.

We take the first sheet with a circle, and divide each area of the circle into 10 equal parts. We have a scale from 0 to 10.

  • 0 - in the center of the circle.
  • 10 - on the outer line of the circle.

We look at the second sheet - our list of achievements. We count our achievements in each area and mark a point equal to the number of achievements in a particular area. Complete the circle of your achievements in this way. Look at this impressive list, these are your results for today, you have something to be proud of!

The data obtained can be used in accordance with the situation - for a resume, for certification, for an interview, etc.

Other ways to work with the Circle of Your Achievements for the future:

  • Pay attention to which areas have more achievements, and which ones have less. You may be able to better understand your strengths and weaknesses in your profession or career.
  • Mark the areas in which you would like to get more achievements. Write down three simple steps to achieve this. Take this plan to work and execute it.
  • Plan your success in an area where you have not yet received results, this will be your development zone.

This tool in my practice is used so far only six months. During this time, it has never let me down. Everyone who tried it in their work noted two main points:

  1. I managed to structure my professional results, to understand the situation “here and now”.
  2. Set goals for the future, i.e. identify growth areas.
